GeoGeneric Domaining – Gen Next

Very recently I joined a geo domainers group and quickly found out that this niche is  hot and burning!

Firstly lets understand what "Pure" Geo Domains & Geo Generic Domains are. Geo Domains are domains purely having the names of Cities / Countries / States / Islands – any geographical site where communities exist and business can be conducted. Examples are Ireland.com / Denver.com / Texas.com etc

Geo Generic Domains on the other hand are generally two-three worders where the First Word is the Geo Name and the remaining words constitute Business / Keyword. Something like DenverStore.com / IndiaCricket.com / AustralianBeer.com / AucklandFinance.com etc.

DebtSpecialist.com at BIDO Today

Bido has been holding daily auctions with the first of its kind “one domain a day” auction, as we all would already know. While their domains have had mixed reactions and sometimes really low winning bids, the one being sold today seems to be a gem.

The name is DebtSpecialist.com

Perfect keywords, rare “debt” domain, and a great niche, I really love the the name (although the plural sounds a tad more corporate). With the world markets in a very volatile state, debt consolidation is huge. This domain would serve well an end user looking to provide their technical expertise and consultation services.

I would be bidding on it, lets see what the final bid it raises. I think it should reach ~4-5K mark easy.

Cuil? Nah Not So Cool Yet.

YOUR SEARCH ARE BELONGS TO ME (muahahaha)

Before i start my rant on the upcoming Search Engine by ex-employees of Google, I would seriously like to know what made these obvious “experts” to come up with such a forgettable name? I read somewhere its supposed to be pronounced “cool”? lol. I would think this name is one typo-squatters paradise. Couldn’t they have gotten a one word generic, or maybe a more pronounceable CVCV.com?

Online Security Awareness – Part I

A recent Article released by iGosh, an Online Security Group, highlights main concerns about the ever growing and uninhibited attacks on websites in order to gain unauthorized access to computer systems or deny them of functionality.  They also shed light on the limited efforts put forward by big corporates to inhibit these malpractices; and how managed research along with timely solution to these problems was the need of the hour.

iGosh, a security advisory and service provider group, addresses the concerns of single owner websites to big firms managing a web of hundreds of computers. Here is the read:

DNForum All Set to hold an Online Auction

[REVIEW ADDED]

DNForum is holding their first Online Auction in another 12 hours. Some nice names have been put up for sale including ABBC.com, Image-Gallery.com, NHQ.net, HostingScript.com, DNGuide.com, CrunkFest.com and a host of others. The hosts of the auction recently stated that their focus would be on getting better names and prices than playing with numbers. Looking at the list, I think they wouldn’t be dissapointed. What reserves have been put up, and whether the bidders meet them, remains to be seen.

The “Gold” in Every Name

I had read sometime ago that the moment you buy a domain, its value increases automatically, as it becomes inaccessible to others.

Also someone mentioned at DNForum that every general dictionary word in .net and .com has a prospective buyer somewhere. The key is to find him.

And that the best achievement is when you see the domain you handregged being put to good use. (SuccessClick)

.Me Brings Doubt & Hope Together.

.Me is still continuing to receive Interest amongst the domainers.

As Justin mentioned at DNForum, the success rate of these new upcoming extensions (with  very minimal exceptions like of .info), has been very low and there is nothing positive to indicate otherwise for this extension.

The registries are having a fun time making hay with every new extension which comes up. Now I agree that some names like Consolidate.me OR Resell.me or Blog.me or Monetize.me might be highly brandable, but they alone cannot make a whole new extension successful. For any extension to be successful, I believe it should point to a particular niche; or might be usable in a particular niche. Info rose as it clearly indicated the sites to be “Information” oriented, which is what the web is all about.

To .me or not to .me!

What madness!!!

The forums were full of .me buzz, and the chatrooms were a crazy place to be in. Domain names were being registered in a frenzy. Tempers were flying high because of GoDaddy messing up again (tell me something new).

Well i registered around 55 domains for fun, and then got rid of them all (dynadot is offering free grace deletions, full refund for .me). Why I decided to lose all the domains was simple. I’ve seen it happen before, at the .asia fanfare.  And then it all dies. Same happened with .maybe (oops .mobi i mean). Right now, with all the hype about new extensions and stuff, the last thing I would want is to get stuck with a worthless extension for 2 years.

Lets see how it all turns out to be. This should be fun ;)

Why Dont Two Word Generics Sell at Forums?

In the previous article I focused on domains that sold at forums. This time I’m going to list out the domains that, despite having an intrinsic value, don’t sell all that easily.  The ones leading the table are Two worders.

When CreativeShoppe.com did not sell, I wondered what the reason could be. Then I realized, that for two word generics or even mid-quality two worders, the price wasn’t well defined. As compared to LL/LLL/LLLL Dictionary domains which had a somewhat standard pricing, two worders weren’t that easy to appraise, and therefore put a price on.

Another reason is the narrow scope / niche of the domain. Each two worder is generally more concentrated on a niche. They have a small market for the quick flippers to work on. You need to keep a larger collection to be able to capture a bigger domainers market. Continue reading ‘Why Dont Two Word Generics Sell at Forums?’

What Sells at Forums

It’s been an year since I registered my first domain as a reseller. It was “CreativeShoppe.com”. I thought I’d made a great find and this single name would prove to be one of the biggest sales till date.

It was a great name as the two words complemented each other, and I thought an Investor would immediately jump on it. But after numerous sales attempts, I had to let it expire. Since then, I have been reading up a lot at these forums, trying to figure out what sells and what doesent. Figuring out what sells at forums was a task at hand, and still is. There is quite a bit of contrast in what sells at forums and what other domainers tend to develop, or buy for development. My primary sales point is still the forums, where I have till date made some good sales. Continue reading ‘What Sells at Forums’
