.Me Brings Doubt & Hope Together.

.Me is still continuing to receive Interest amongst the domainers.

As Justin mentioned at DNForum, the success rate of these new upcoming extensions (with  very minimal exceptions like of .info), has been very low and there is nothing positive to indicate otherwise for this extension.

The registries are having a fun time making hay with every new extension which comes up. Now I agree that some names like Consolidate.me OR Resell.me or Blog.me or Monetize.me might be highly brandable, but they alone cannot make a whole new extension successful. For any extension to be successful, I believe it should point to a particular niche; or might be usable in a particular niche. Info rose as it clearly indicated the sites to be “Information” oriented, which is what the web is all about.

.Me has been marketed as the “New Personal” extension for all to use, be it for blogs, personal / family websites or resume sites. In the domaining world, whatever cannot earn money for some business or niche is useless, and any personal webname would never quite do it.

Well, speculation does run a major part of the domaining world, but calling this speculation would be highly inaccurate; I woud believe this is a gamble, no doubt. With no projections, marketing, and trends to follow, .me is riding on fallacy.

Though some domainers are willing to gamble on these new entrants would believe this niche would make it big for them; I would highly doubt it. And these arent even $.99 regges to gamble on, they take quite a big bite out of low budget investments if your going after a few of them.

The only hope is creating websites with the top generics and selling them before the hype dies down. I’m down to only one registration which I kept, and am struggling with hard logic to keep it, and failing at that.

.ME would resell well for the absolute generic names, which are around .01% of all registered; PERIOD.

Yes, I fully agree with you that only small fraction of the names will be successful. I personally own some Country capitals.me that are tourist destinations, but have no success at the moment on auctions for some desired names like bless.me :)

    Hi Ross,
Capital .me names sound good, so does bless.me. I believe the key to making these names successful is only by development.
Bless.me for example can be a great religious / inspirational forum OR an informational site of various religious events happening around the world and tourist destinations. If I had this one, it would be for keeps for an year or two!
Capital names could probably work as a targeted Geo forum.
Its good to have registered and kept a few choice domains in a speculative extension, I hope you didn’t go overboard with it though :)

I only went after geo-domains in the .me landrush. So many people missed out on that one. I grabbed several of my local cities…
    :-) I’ve already sold a few for a whopping profit !!

:) I did that with some .asia domains.
Like I mentioned elsewhere, knowing what to sell when is the key now days, with all the volatility in the markets as well as various niches in domaining. That’s why I’m going with Geo Generics now. Decent ones with good Cities / States are still readily available. These, with a little development can only grow. :) Congrats !!

    Hi Krossat,
I am back after a agap to your website. So now .ME is completely in a different position than what many of the .com fans expected (as you can see it by the results of NY Traffic).I know want to know your opinion on .ME names not only niches but also Keywords like Manicure.me , Automobiles.me, Membership.Me etc
