The “Gold” in Every Name

I had read sometime ago that the moment you buy a domain, its value increases automatically, as it becomes inaccessible to others.

Also someone mentioned at DNForum that every general dictionary word in .net and .com has a prospective buyer somewhere. The key is to find him.

And that the best achievement is when you see the domain you handregged being put to good use. (SuccessClick)

Makes me believe there is an inherent value in every generic domain. If you believe that your name is good, and that you can make a pretty penny on it, try searching for the best home for it. Think of selling it to a business which would give the name its worth, contribute to its value and utilize its might. Flipping domains amongst ourselves bloats their price value, not their worth. Worth can only be achieved by finding the right buyer, someone who can use it the most.

Selling your domain by putting it up for auction or listing is like selling a Software by putting it up on those shareware sites. Agreed people do find these names there, but just imagine the absolute majority of market your missing up on. Why not target the end user and not the dealers / distributors in between? Why just be content with earning pennies when you could make that one good deal click which would cover your costs for the entire year?

We spend time to research and acquire your domain, and then let it lie in some listing for others to find it?  I guess nothing would sell well this way, everything needs pro-active selling. One needs to aggressively search for the right user for the domain; and for that one needs to clearly define the niche and usability of the domain, the brandability factor and the statistics.

Its easy to say every domain needs to have an end user, but much harder to put to practice. In fact, every successful domainer till now has perfected this art of getting the idea across to the end user, and making him see the inherent value of the name, which would in turn convert into business profits for him. The successful domainer knows how to market his domain, how to exemplify its worth and turn it into a bag full of moolah.

This my friends, is what we should be aiming for.

    Hi Paladin,

Thank you for the comment :)
Well I did write an article sometime back describing various ways of reaching your buyer here:

    http://krossat.com/where-to-sell-domains/

It isn’t comprehensive, but does give a few tips where to look.

It has a category where I explain a little about the end user and how to find him. Practically, there are several ways to do it, searching the internet, contacting companies who have a database of web clients; offering your services and a percentage incentive, looking through directories, related websites etc for people who might be interested in your name.

In fact, think as an end user looking for a website / domain. Where all would you look? Check out the article url above to see if it can be of use to you :)

    Thanks,
    Kross.
