In the previous article I focused on domains that sold at forums. This time I’m going to list out the domains that, despite having an intrinsic value, don’t sell all that easily. The ones leading the table are Two worders.
When CreativeShoppe.com did not sell, I wondered what the reason could be. Then I realized, that for two word generics or even mid-quality two worders, the price wasn’t well defined. As compared to LL/LLL/LLLL Dictionary domains which had a somewhat standard pricing, two worders weren’t that easy to appraise, and therefore put a price on.
Another reason is the narrow scope / niche of the domain. Each two worder is generally more concentrated on a niche. They have a small market for the quick flippers to work on. You need to keep a larger collection to be able to capture a bigger domainers market.
If someone looking for a “forum” domain, its a small niche, and not many turn up asking for the same. And if you have a killer domain pertaining to the niche, the price seems too high! If someones looking for a fashion domain, its again a narrow niche. Two worders generally have a longer shelf life than the Short domains or Dictionary words.
I started with two worders, and stopped short of buying more when I realised this. Now that the vanity domains are coming and dictionary word .coms are too expensive, I’m again going back to the “two word category specific, business oriented” domains. With the lower price and more availability, I have an option to choose amongst the best available ones. I also have an option to develop. Two worders seem to be the safest bet for now.
